Laser TA🔗
This section includes all the information regarding the elligibility and the responsibilites of a TA.
Eligibility🔗
Undergraduate students enrolled in the undergraduate course AD3128701 are eligible to apply for Laser Cutting TA positions. A TA qualification exam is held during the first semester of each academic year.
- Each grade level has a limited number of available TA positions.
- Selection is primarily for first-year undergraduate students.
- Once selected, TA status is generally retained until the student graduates, transfers, or withdraws from the department.
- In cases were a TA has recieved multiple verified complaints, the TA status for said TA will be revoked.
Graduating undergraduate TAs who proceed to a graduate program at the department may retain their TA status with approval from both the management faculty and the head Laser Cutting TA.
Starting a Shift🔗
TAs must:
- Arrive before their scheduled shift time.
- Unlock doors, activate extraction systems, and ensure all equipment is functioning properly before any user activity begins.
The extraction system is controlled via the panel located to the left upon entering the laser cutting room.
The image above shows the extraction system in the "off" state.
To turn the system on:
- Rotate the bottom left knob counterclockwise
- Rotate the bottom right knob clockwise
Ensure the two arrows point away from each other to confirm proper activation.
User time begins only after all systems are fully prepared and operational.
Missed or Late Shifts🔗
If a TA is unable to attend a shift or anticipates being significantly late, it is their responsibility to arrange for a qualified replacement TA in advance.
Failure to attend a shift without making proper arrangements may result in the following consequences:
- Compensatory usage: The TA must ensure that the affected user is compensated for the missed time.
- User complaints: May be submitted to the Head TA or management faculty.
- Disciplinary action: Penalties may be issued to the TA, depending on the severity and frequency of the offense.
During a Shift🔗
TAs are responsible for ensuring the safety of the machines and workspace. When a job is active, machines must not be left unattended. The TA should keep the machine within sight at all times and respond appropriately to any unexpected or emergency situations.
If the TA must temporarily leave, all jobs should be paused unless responsibilities have been formally transferred to another qualified individual. However, the TA remains accountable for any incidents that occur during their absence.
Incidents and Emergencies🔗
Follow the procedures stated in Incidents and Emergencies
Ending a Shift🔗
At the end of each shift, TAs are responsible for completing the following tasks:
- Ensure all active jobs are either completed or safely stopped.
- Shut down all machines and equipment according to standard procedures.
- Turn off the extraction system by:
- Rotating the bottom left knob clockwise
- Rotating the bottom right knob counterclockwise
The system is properly deactivated when the two arrows point parallel to each other. - Clean the workspace: Remove all waste, tidy the area, and ensure no personal items are left behind.
- Lock all doors and secure the facility.
- Report any incidents, equipment malfunctions, or unusual occurrences to the Head TA or management faculty immediately.
A shift is not considered complete until all closing duties have been fully carried out. TAs must remain on-site until all users have left the space.
If the next TA has not yet arrived and you must leave:
- Do not leave users unattended.
- Contact the incoming TA to confirm their estimated arrival time.
- Pause all active jobs and ask users to exit the room.
- Lock and secure the space, and have users wait outside of RB910.
- Notify the Head TA or management faculty of the situation.
- Once the space is properly secured, you may leave. You are not required to wait with the users for the next TA’s arrival if they are late.
If the next TA cannot be reached:
- Safely end all jobs and proceed with full shutdown procedures.
- Have the user leave RB910.
- Report the situation to the Head TA or management faculty.
- You may then leave once all responsibilities have been fulfilled and the room is secured.
Note
If the resin 3d printers are in use, keep the laser exhaust (雷切排風 left knob) enabled when closing shop; but do close room exhaust (室內排風 right knob).
